Welcome
Striving for social justice
Camden is a place defined by our values. We have never been a place to ignore or accept injustice. Our organisation and our borough is full of people dedicated to doing what’s right, challenging inequality and standing up to injustice.
We work each and every day to deepen our connections with our communities – holding trust and sharing power to help bring residents’ energy and creativity to our shared ambition to create a fairer future for everyone. It’s this collective sense of purpose that gives Camden its ambitious, rebellious spirit; deeply rooted in the belief that local government can be a force for transformational change.
We Make Camden is our shared vision for our borough, founded on our four missions. These missions came from deep conversations with our communities and partners about the challenges we face. They’re all about thinking, doing and inspiring community-led action by coming together to deliver real change – change that we simply cannot make on our own. We’re really beginning to see the impact that our approach to starting small, testing and learning as we go, and putting local people at the heart of change is having.
Right now, housing is one of the most urgent and complex issues we face. Like many urban councils, we’re navigating a worsening housing crisis - from rising homelessness and unaffordable rents, to increased demand and ageing housing stock. And we are determined to respond with creativity, compassion and bold leadership.
That’s why we’re now seeking an exceptional Executive Director for Homes & Communities. This is a role for someone who shares our ambition to do housing differently. Someone ready to lead Camden’s work on housing, homelessness, housing investment and community engagement with purpose and vision.
We are proud of our record: from being one of London’s most active builders of new council homes through our Community Investment Programme, to signing off a £670m Housing Investment Strategy that will ensure our existing homes are safe, high-quality and future ready. But we know we need to go further building trust, co-designing with communities, and embedding a truly relational approach to services.
This is an opportunity to shape the future of housing in one of London’s most diverse and dynamic boroughs and to influence the sector more widely. We are looking for a leader who is collaborative, inclusive and bold; someone who thrives on complexity and who can inspire others to think differently and act with purpose.
If you're driven by Social justice and making a genuine difference to the lives of the people and communities we serve, Camden is the place for you.
